Description
Set out on an outdoor scavenger hunt along the MCT Trails to discover six "Mysterious Creatures" celebrating 100 years of historic Route 66!
The MCT Trails Creature Quest is a unique public art experience celebrating the Route 66 Centennial. Six large-scale metal sculptures are hidden at secret intersections where Madison County Transit trails meet the old Mother Road. Grab an official Creature Quest Atlas to solve clues, track them down, and experience local history firsthand.
Something mysterious has arrived along the MCT Trails! In an exciting partnership between the Agency for Community Transit (ACT), the Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau, and Enjoy Illinois, a brand-new public art experience has officially debuted: The MCT Trails Creature Quest – Celebrating 100 Years of Route 66.Six massive, unique metal sculptures, known as the "Mysterious Creatures," have been permanently installed at secret locations throughout the 138-mile trail system. Rather than posting the coordinates, organizers invite explorers of all ages to hunt for them using the physical or digital "Creature Quest Atlas". Each sculpture features a custom plaque with a unique riddle or poem to unlock. The placement of each hidden creature highlights a historic, physical cross-section where the modern MCT bike trails seamlessly intersect with, cross, or run right alongside the original paths of historic Route 66. It is the perfect weekend day trip for families, cyclists, hikers, and Mother Road enthusiasts alike.
